The hype around The Witcher 3 and its invulnerability

There is no doubt that The Witcher 3 is one of the most anticipated games this year, probably even the favorite for the game of the year so far. The hype around it is big and maybe got even bigger with the big press event a few weeks ago and the Let’s Plays with famous gamers that were published recently. However, at the same time more and more dubious news around the game reach us (DRM?) and are received with mixed feeling. While the collective uproar is missing, it seems that somehow we are almost happy to finally have found the fly in the ointment, because everything sounded already almost too good, and that would have been fishy by itself.

Personally, I have become almost immune to hype. If there is any game that proves this, then it actually is The Witcher 3. The series is one of my favorites and after playing the first game, I read all of the books and I simply love its cosmos – I even own the board game. And still, I am not in total hype mode. Of course I am looking forward to it, will play it from day 1 and will be happy like a little kid to meet again a lot of great characters. But I am not putting it on any pedestal and treating it like the reincarnation of the god of games, which is something that I probably still would have done a couple of years ago. But almost ten years of experience as game journalist hardened me in that department. Of course every gamer got disappointed so many times by false promises, but if those promises were made to you face to face, it just hurts that much more.
